St.Austell & District League Team 2010

Saturday 13th November saw the E.S.F.A. Primary Schools Area County Finals Tournament held at Biscovey Junior School.  With four district teams entered a league was played, with the winners going on to represent Cornwall in the South-West Finals.

The St. Austell & District team was selected from the fourteen schools that play in the two local leagues, with seven of the schools having players in the squad of ten.

The tournament started well for St. Austell & District with a 3-1 win over the Wadebridge Area sealed through goals by Elliot Knight (2) and Brad Lowe.  The second game saw South East Cornwall win 3-0 against West Cornwall before St. Austell battled out a 1-1 draw against West Cornwall with Joe Baker grabbing the St. Austell & District goal.

Another win for South-East Cornwall set up the final game where St. Austell & District needed to win, whilst a draw was good enough for South-East Cornwall to become champions.  The game was very tight and neither side managed to create any clear cut chances.  With the score 0-0 at half time, St. Austell & District needed to push on for the win but got caught out, conceding a couple of goals which meant a 2-0 defeat.  This left St. Austell & District in 2nd place behind South East Cornwall – which is an excellent achievement.

Head Coach, Rob Wallbank, said, “The team played some fantastic football throughout the morning and had a brilliant attitude.  The standard of football was very high and all ten boys played an important part of the team.  The lads should be proud of themselves for their efforts on the day.”

The team consisted of:

Sam Bray (Capt.) Jai Clemes, Charley Elton   (Mt.Charles)

Joe Baker & Marco Barresi   (St.Mewan)

Elliot Knight   (Biscovey)

Jordan Roberton   (Charlestown)

Bailey Smith   (Mevagissey)

Brad Lowe   (St. Stephen)

Oliver Grigg   (Tywardreath)

Head Coach: Rob Wallbank (Biscovey)

Assistant:  Rob Walters (Mt.Charles)

On Saturday 16th January 2010 a representative team selected from the twelve schools in the St. Austell and District Primary Schools Football League played in the Cornwall Qualifying section of the E.S.F.A. National U11 Association Cup.  After two postponements last year due to the poor weather, the tournament was held on the 3G all weather pitch at Callington, with the winners progressing to represent Cornwall in the South West Regional Finals in March.

After watching the two other teams, South East Cornwall and Wadebridge share a 0-0 draw, the team played South East Cornwall first.  A slow start saw them 2-0 down at half time which, despite an improvement in the second half, they failed to overturn and lost 2-1.  The next game saw a 2-0 win over Wadebridge and, after South East Cornwall beat Wadebridge 3-1, meant they needed a win over South East Cornwall to have a chance to qualify.  A great first half performance saw them leading 1-0 at half time but in the second half they could not hold on and the game finished as a 2-1 loss.  This meant the final game against Wadebridge was to see who would finish as runners up.  A strong performance saw a 0-0 draw and St. Austell secured their 2nd place finish.

The team consisted of:  Torin Clarke & George Truscott (St. Mewan), Dillon Frise & Keiran Bishop (Sandy Hill), Ben Rowe, Isaac Parker & Jack Swiggs (Biscovey), Adam Finnie & Jamie Franks (Mount Charles) and Josh Davis (St. Stephen).

On Saturday 22nd of November 2008, a team of players representing the St. Austell and District Primary Schools league competed in the Cornwall District Finals held at Biscovey Junior School.  Ten children were selected for the squad from the twelve schools that are part of the St. Austell and District Football League.

There were three other teams in the tournament - South East Cornwall, Wadebridge. and Penwith.  In the first game St. Austell drew 0-0 with Penwith, which they followed up with a 1-0 win over Wadebridge.  In their final game they needed a victory to finish as joint winners but ended up losing 1-0 to South East Cornwall.  This meant they finished in 3rd place overall.

The boys all played some great football and with a bit more luck they could have seen themselves progressing to the regional finals as county winners.

The squad consisted of:

Keane Whittaker (St. Stephen)

Daniel Marks (Carclaze)

Cameron Warne, Milo Semonin & Talan Annear (Mount Charles)

Liam Knowles, Lewis Stockley & Keiran Bishop (Sandy Hill)

Charlie Tregunna (Charlestown)

Tyler Cheshire (Biscovey)
